Modern travelers typically struggle with baggage. A checked luggage may not make it to their destination, while carry-ons may run out of overhead bin space or cost a charge.
Southwest passengers may have one less concern on their next flight. via Oct. 24, the airline revealed it could follow checked luggage while en route via X (previously Twitter).
The carrier's notoriously low-cost policy of two free checked baggage each flight is expanded by the new option.
Now on Southwest.com & the Southwest mobile app, customers can view the current state of their check bag across three different milestones of each checked piece of luggage:
Establishing when bag tags have been printed and when bags are loaded and unloaded from our aircraft.
The new tool, which launched with the announcement, can be accessed by pressing "track your checked baggage" on the left-hand side of the app or on their travel reservation details page.
Southwest is famous for its "no-frills" travel, but the latest feature places it with other U.S. carriers. Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and United Airlines provide a similar service, although some passengers add a suitcase tracker.
Southwest co-branded credit card holders can now earn 1,500 tier qualifying points for $5,000, down 50% from $10,000. Customers may unlock A-List at 35,000 points and A-List Preferred at 70,000.
Status holders have further benefits. On Nov. 6, A-List Preferred travelers will receive coupons for two complimentary premium drinks each trip, including alcohol. The Southwest mobile app will provide coupons for free drinks.
